Tranmere Rovers suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Gillingham on Saturday, a result that leaves them 10th in the League Two standings. Logan Dobbs scored his first senior league goal and Ronan Hale added a second to secure back-to-back wins for the hosts at Priestfield.
Dobbs, a defender, broke the deadlock in the 68th minute, finishing from a cross supplied by Hale. Just twelve minutes later, Hale doubled the advantage, finding the net after an assist from Garath McCleary.
Tranmere created several chances but could not find a way past Gillingham goalkeeper Ollie Wright. In the opening minutes, Nick Freeman saw a shot denied by Luke McGee and Dylan Jones had an effort cleared off the line. Nathan Smith headed a Tom Ince corner goalward just after the half-hour mark, but Wright gathered it comfortably. Later, a James Brophy free-kick was headed towards goal by Omar Beckles, only for McGee to make the save.
The loss follows a 2-0 win over Oldham and means Tranmere's recent form now reads one win, three draws and one defeat from their last five outings. They have scored nine goals and conceded seven across their six league games this season, sitting three points behind leaders Barnet. Their next match is scheduled for next weekend.
